After this year's Maribor Theatre Festival, we held discussions and coordinated with several stakeholders about the new date. The shift of the date to spring/early summer suits the majority of producers/theatres, but to preserve the possibilities for student involvement, we have slightly shifted the date of the festival in 2023 in agreement with the management of UL AGRFT.

The new date of the 58th Maribor Theatre Festival is thus 5–18 June 2023.

The main mission of the festival is to select and present the highest quality achievements of the Slovenian theatre season, to honour theatre artists and their creative achievements, promote and popularise theatre creativity among audiences of all ages, at home and abroad, promote the quality and professional level of Slovenian theatre creativity, facilitate the flow of information and the exchange of performances, to showcase foreign theatre creativity and last but not least to promote the diversity and, simultaneously, the cohesion of the Slovenian theatre space and expression.

The central core of the festival in 2023 will continue to be the selection of performances in the competition programme, which will be curated by the dramaturg, critic and publicist Vilma Štritof. The selection period runs from January 2022 until the end of December 2022.
