Angels in America explores a series of paradoxes – life surrounded by death, hope eroded by despair, rage at the heart of tenderness. Kushner captures the late 20th century, the winter between 1985 and 1986 – the time of monsters, when the old world was disintegrating and crumbling. The drama unites the living and the dead, paradise and hell, left and right, communism and capitalism, angels and humans, disco and funerals. The narrative follows – somewhere in New York City – the terrified children of a cruel era, whose lives, engulfed by the AIDS epidemic, reduced to a few bonds of friendship and a few coincidences, but each of them still desires something, some love. Exposed and vulnerable, despite the prohibitions and the risks, they continue to long and yearn – for life. 

Director

Director Nina Rajić Kranjac has received a number of important recognitions even as a student. Since her beginnings in the professional theatre world in 2016, her always engaged, profound, critical and here-and-now productions are usually selected for important festivals, where they are often awarded; let's mention the Bitef Grand Prize for Solo in 2023. She is also a lecturer at AGRFT.

Producer

The Mladinsko was established in 1955 as the first professional theatre for children and youth in Slovenia. Around 1980, it expanded its programme, in which it linked political criticism with innovative performative practices. Today, it tries to penetrate into the public space from the stage, so that the public space becomes an equal space for performance.
